The time is almost here! Our family of three is about to grow to a family of four in just 9 days.
We have assembled countless baby apparatuses, sanitized a multitude of bottles, folded ~1500 onesies, triple-checked the safety of every large piece of furniture, and read way too many books to our daughter about becoming a big sister.
And now, we prepare for our parental leave!
I’m due next week (the baby will come one way or another—I’m scheduled for a c-section), so I am soaking up the last few days of quiet while checking the final things off our to-do list.
Here’s what to expect from this newsletter while our family makes this transition.
Next week, I’ll post one primary post—a mega links post of things to read, watch, and listen to.
And then the next four weeks will be scheduled installments of unlikely faith meditations, looking at what mustard seed faith really means, how unsatisfactory justice reveals a more perfect justice, what it means to trust God with our most precious hatreds, and how to think about the meaning of life without getting too deep (ha!).
The Friday links post will be themed “Paradigm-Shifting Links,” which will be sorted into categories of books, podcasts, shows, and internet things.
While the United States has yet to get its shit together when it comes to parental leave, and Substack is not exactly a workplace to offer it on its own, I’m grateful for subscribers like you who provide space for me to be human, a woman, a parent, a person!
I post once a week about questions, texts (many things are sacred texts—my main, but not only, one is the Bible), and thematic discussions about all things faith.
The weekly post goes out to everyone, for free, always.
By subscribing to the paid portion, you receive a weekly post with links and recommendations (just trust me!), a subscriber-only audio recording of my post, and the ability to participate in discussions in the comment thread.
And of course, by being a paid subscriber, your generosity allows me to continue to do this work, and to do it better each week.
I'm a big fan of your writing and so is my wife. Here's to a healthy baby and lots of help for you.
